i have loved the way this snare sounds every time i hear it on a recording. but i haven't fully hit one yet to see how it sounds live. my friend needs a snare for our band, and i've been pushing the black beauty on him. does anyone own one of these legends?
thanks,
rob

really, any of the hammered copper ludwigs with super sensitive snares will sound amazing on recordings.

i've got a 10-ply maple ludwig that i custom ordered with tube lugs and die cast rims. 2 engineers have told me that it's the nicest sounding snare they've ever recorded. i use an aquarian studio x head on it (really nice overtones) and just plain old standard snares.

ludwig may have had an ugly period in the late 80's through the 90's, but they are definitely still the tops when it comes to snares.

I am officially in love with girlthatdrums. :)

Ludwig is the sound of rock and roll. Period.
