Ok, here goes...
I've done some demos on the Tascam 2488 I got a little while ago and I'd appreciate any thoughts/feedback on the tunes. Feel free to be brutally honest but hopefully constructive too :)

They're at http://www.myspace.com/thelemonchiliproject They're 128 MP3's so if quality is too low let me know and I'll post them somewhere else at 320.

The songs are four of my original tunes and the main objective of these recordings is to find a drummer and a guitarist to finally turn "The Lemonchili Project" in to a full band. At this stage I'll stick with bass and vocals and I have a keyboard player who is interested. Secondary objective is to pass the tunes around to friends and start up a bit of a following.

The first tune, "Slip Away", is the newest and is probably closest to how I think my band will sound. As seems to be common with original work I have difficulty in describing my stuff, so feel free to finish the sentence "The Lemonchili Project sounds like...".

cheers,

no replys so I thought I'd chime in....

I listened to "Slip Away"....
cool lyric changes in the chorus...
Days...
Months...
Years...

pretty creative...

Mix and performance...
you could lose that noise right at the beginning...chair sqeak or something....
same thing at the very end......sounds like a bad fade...
Vox seems monotone...lacks dynamics...a little wet...harmony vox sounds just like the lead....try a dynamic change there...it might help...
rhythm guitar tone is OK....seems mid heavy lacking lows and Highs..sounds squished too...(over compressed)....could be a little wetter too...
alternately..the lead guit is very wet....
bass is uber cool...yeah you are a bass player man....nice riffs...
the synth tone sort of sounds like a Casio to me...sort of cheesy...

Thank you :) I'm really proud of the tone I got on that track, it rocks.

Thanks Joro, thoughts much appreciated. That's the most detailed feedback I've had so far, very helpful. I've only ever used a little Boss recorder before, so I'm on a big learning curve at the moment... Lot's of fun though :)
With mixing the hardest thing I'm finding is getting a good level for the vocals (a fine line between too much and too little), followed by reverb settings where the biggest problem is I haven't really worked out what I want yet. I'll just have to keep experimenting and listening to stuff, though I do like some things to be pretty wet.
I'm also doing a lot of mucking around with the onboard compressors and a JoeMeek ThreeQ I just got and I probably got a little carried away with that on the vocals...
The second vocal on the chorus was done very quickly, it's just a double of the normal line, I should have worked on it a little more to polish it up. I'll play around with a proper harmony next time.

I played a gig with my other band on the weekend and realised I sing a lot better live, and more "lively" for want of a better word, when I can hear myself through the monitors (and maybe a little because of the pressure of being on stage?)... I need to figure out how to recreate that at home when recording.
