Hey hey. I was feeling very Indian lately, so out came my new instrumental
piece, Specimen5: East of the Equator.

p3
(you might have to cut and paste the link, or you can just go to
http://www.ipacak.com and it'll be right there).
I went really experimental with this song and just let loose. The beginning
part is more structured and then it goes into really experimental stuff
where I play around with some exotic scales. I tried a little polyrhythmic
stuff in here too... well, I think it's polyrhythmic. I'm not exactly sure
what polyrhythms sound like yet, so this is my best guess.
Now, as for the recording part of this, in the beginning portion of the song
where the background is still fairly sparse, I noticed some kind of
distortion, sounded like clipping, as if I compressed this clip wayy too
hard. However, I only noticed it when I put on headphones and listened. It
doesn't do it at all on my speakers, but my headphones seemed ok with other
songs. The other wierd thing is that later on when the clip gets louder,
there should be more distortion, but it kind of goes away, I think. Can any
of you hear this or are my headphones broken? I'm stumped as to how there
could be that much difference between my headphones and speakers.
So hopefully some of you'll give me some constructive criticism on this one!
Especially because I was experimenting with totally new stuff on this clip.
Thanks and enjoy the clip.
