Great sound!

The harmonies were killer,really sweet!

"At that point in my life I was pretty shocked to find out that not all songs were played with C-Am-F-G (and even with that I was still stuggling to finger an F chord cleanly - hmmmm. . . actually I still am ) "

Thank God for half bar chords and capo's!
Without them,I'd never get off the first two frets!:D

Really good mix,the recording sounds clean and big.
Another excellent job!

I enjoyed it very much,thanks.

Pete

sweet sounding man...very good harmony, and very clean crisp sound. "big"

Aw, you guys are starting to make me blush. ;)

Dara - thanks for checking it out. Glad you liked it. I noticed you had something posted also. It's on my list to check out. Unfortunately, I usually only have the patience for one download a night on my dial-up, but I'll get there.

erichenryus, Norman and Wes - Thanks for listening and thanks for the kind words. Shindig and Hullaballoo, Norman? You might be as old as me. :) Or is they now on Nick at Night, too?

TripleM - apparently the bass comes across a bit "thunderous" on some playback systems. It sounded great on my studio monitors and in my car, but I played it on a friend's home system and heard what you are probably hearing. The original mix had a roll off at 30 Hz, which I have increased to 50 Hz to see if it helps. I'm uploading it to NWR now if you want to check it out and give me your feedback. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until I can get back to my friend's house. If this doesn't do it, I'll give your suggestion a try.

Thank God for half bar chords and capo's! Without them,I'd never get off the first two frets!
LOL, Pete. Capo's, yeah that's the ticket. Now why didn't I think of that. :D
Thanks for the great feedback.

I remember this song...I can swear I heard it growing up. Nice arrangement you have on this. I really like the subtlety of it. Nice playing and you have great vocals (especially those B.G. vocals)...

Nice job! :)

Hey Dach,
........smokin!!!! Those lush backgrounds are simply killer. This is a great recording man. Ive downloaded it and will enjoy this until the early 60's roll around again....... ....or im dead:D

.....Great job man, the whole mix is beautiful, very nice use of verb. ......very appropriately used for this genre. I cant say enough.

Excellent stuff man, and i enjoyed hearing this genre of music in here too.

G ............ with a handful of stars for ya:)

You guys can really sing man.....great harmonizing.

I love it.

Have you guys ever covered "Moonlight In Vermont".....I bet you could pull it off......The Four Freshmen do a version of it thats just killer.

the bg vocals are great. I liked the ld vocs too... neat rendition.

lounge jazz-type stuff rules, man. Down in the smoky Las Vegas Hotel club... ahh yeeeah :p :) Sparkling recording. That tambourine is perfect.

The song title is apropo to me right now :( thanks, I guess, in a way :)

EDIT: A xylophone or marimba solo in there would be PERFECT

Damn this is a great recording. Everything is so sparkly, I love how this sounds. Amazing vocals. I wish I could touch this kind of production. Now pardon me while I slip into a dry martini ;)
Beautiful job! :D

I listened days ago, and I listened again today, and I kept waiting for something "bad" to stick out that I, in my infinite amateurity, could try to "fix." The problem is, this sounds great to me, so I'd might as well tell you... GREAT!

And another thing...

"In My Room" ... man, what a great song to cover...and the WAY you covered it. I think Brian Wilson probably heard it this way in his head; I'm floored by your version of this song.

(sorry...back to your "current" hit)...hehehe.

I'm actually overwhelmed by all the comments. This flattery is doing absolutely nothing for my mixing skills, but is quite OK for the ego. :)

boydrj - Did you grow in in Calif. or on the east coast. I'm curious about how widespread was the airplay this song got. If you heard it in CA, then maybe it was a stronger hit (?) than I thought it was. I wonder if they archive the old Billboard charts? Of course, even if they do I'd need to remember when it was released. I'm guessing 1966.

Guernica - You want to tell us how you really feel. :)

Thanks for the superlatives, man, and may you live at least until the early '60's roll around again. Oh, and thanks for the stars, too.

Kramer - thanks for listening. I'm not familiar with Moonlight in Vermont, but the 4 Freshman had some great harmony. I'll see if I can locate a copy and give it a listen.

mixmkr - appreciate the kind comments.

participant - "lounge-jazz". I love it. I think it fits this tune perfectly. I'm not sure about your reference to connecting to the title, but I don't think that can be a good thing. Hang in there. Music and time are great healers.

BTW, how about some Lionel Hampton on the Vibes? I could hear that in this song.

barometer - would you like that shaken or stirred? True to your word, you showed up and listened. Thanks. Glad you liked it. For that, may Green Bay kick ass this week (shhh, don't tell Chuck I said that).

chrisharris - <sheepishly> I must admit to having listened to your Supposed to Do and not commenting on it. I actually had nothing constructive to offer, as it sounded great to me. You have a great country voice, and I like the tune a lot. If you ever decide to cover a CSN or Eagles' song and want backing vocals, let me know. I love singing that stuff. :)

Now, with that out of the way, thanks for the very nice words on Dyingly Sad. And I'm quite knocked out by your take on In My Room. That's some pretty high praise. Muchas gracias.

dachay2tnr

I am old enough to remember this one (kinda)
A real nice cover ! You have captured the feel of the original, which is what I think you were after !

The mix and sound is better than the original.
Nice Job!

Joel

This is awesome. Not my bag for pleasure listening, but recorded and mixed like a pro. Did you do this in Sonar?

My only critique is on the bare intro... just didn't vibe with me, but when the guitar and vocals fill in it rocks. :D

Excellent.

Ahh, those lush acoustic guitars. Gotta love 'em. There's something about the bass guitar that jumps out. It's too upfront. Maybe lose some low-mids or something (I dunno about frequencies, I usually just fiddle around with an EQ until it sounds better :D )

So, this is a cover of an old song, eh? I guess those harmony vocals give it away. Ok, there's some nostalgia feel in the chord progression too. I'm thinking Love Boat instantly. This would be perfect for that kind of thing. Cool.

Time to let this thread die. However some final thanks first.

joel - you are exactly correct. I was looking for the feel of the original but (hopefully) with better production values. It's amazing that we can now, in many cases, get better quality in a cheap home studio than they were getting in a professional studio back in the '60's. Ain't technology wonderful? The problem is that now it has to stack up against today's professional studios. :( Thanks for checking it out and for the kind comments.

jim - yes, recorded and mixed in Sonar, with some home mastering done in Wavelab. I realize our style isn't everyone's cup of tea, but isn't what this forum is all about? We don't necessarily all like or record the same style of music, but we can still appreciate what each other is doing. Cool!!

cranky - I'm still stuggling a bit with the bass. It sounds exactly right on some systems, but a little too much on others. I'm trying to cut it back, without losing what makes it sound good in the first place. I did another mix tonight where I cut 2 db @ 300 Hz on the bass. Hopefully that will do the trick. But I won't know for sure until I can check it out on various systems.

Love Boat?? Ouch.

Thanks to everyone for listening and for the very postive feedback. Makes me feel I'm actually making some progress at this shit. (Or possibly just got lucky. :) )
