Howdy, all. The final tune from our upcoming CD has just posted and, as always, we're looking for your insight on how to make this bad boy 'CD ready'. We've still got a little bit of time to make edits before the disc is 'released', so let us know the good, the bad, and the ugly with this track.

The new tune is called “If I Were Able” and it’s at http://www.mp3.com/30SoS All aspects are fair game – production, performance, song, etc. We may not have the time to make major song or performance changes, but if you think it needs them, let us know for future recordings. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.

You guys sound great. I've still got the song Superman in my playlist. That guitar sound is outstanding it really fills up every space, which actually makes it hard for the other instruments to fit in. The drums are having trouble getting into the mix in my headphones and the voice sounds kind of thinned out.

More on the voice. I'm not sure if it's the mix or the way you're singing but it doesn't sound as full as it could to me. I want more of that Chris Cornell type of fullness to it and I think you could do that maybe if you relaxed your singing a little and added some carefully placed vibrato. Assuming that's what you want.

Oh, and maybe you could speed this up just a tad.

Is all of that too much to ask? I like your music anyway, I probably spend more time on the constructive stuff than some people might like but I assume that's why you're here.

....great stuff as usual. Keep it up 30sos!!!!
always impressed, mike

sounds great!

yeah dude, I think the things I wouldnt like would be preference, but as far as any mixing concerns, it's good to go IMOP. The guitars may have been a bit loud BUT that's how I like it.. I get accused of doing the same thing.. Nice guitar sound...Theres some fancy production things happening in this.. pretty cool. If you get a chance, SCREAM MORE! :D

very cool sound and tunes..

That is sick stuff. You really improved the bass most of all, but the guitars rock too. The vocals are strong as usual. This is a good song.

I have noticed that you have certain themes running through your music... among them the need for your actions to be justified... man, anything's justified if it rocks like this!

For your next album (you knew I would say this) I think you guys need to get some sort of standalone sampler (Akai MPC) or drum programming software (FruityLoops for standalone, or Battery for a plugin)... the drum sounds are still the weakest link in your chain... However, I also half expect you to have real drums on the next album, since hopefully you'll have at least indie label backing by then...

Wow! Thanks for all the responses! Let me see if I can get caught up...

erichenryus -- we're impressed superman is still on your playlist -- very cool. You're right about wanting suggestions -- that's totally why we're here, so keep 'em coming. And you're not the only one who wishes I could sing like Chris Cornell... :D Seriously, the vox have been a constant point of struggle. I think it's partially how I sing (not so well) and partially how it's being recorded (also not so well). Luckily, I talked to a friend of mine who's a resident studio stud and he's going to help me tune up my vocal tracking... In terms of the tempo, we're probably just used to it. We were going for a slow, heavy, dirge-type groove, but it could maybe stand an extra click or two...

Guernica and spacedye -- thanks guys! we're really glad you dig it. anything in particular that you like or that you think could use some work?

samicide -- thanks for the post. i always used to under-mix the guitars for fear of playing favorites (that's my main instrument), but the more we listen to stuff in our genre the more we pump them up front. And this was my first attempt at the true 'aggro-rock' scream. glad you think it came off all right. I probably will try and get it in some other tunes in the future (if my throat holds out...) :)

charger -- thanks for noticing the bass. that was the big triumph for us on this tune. i think it's really where it needs to be in the mix. and we are looking at other drum options -- i've got access to a Yamaha SU700 -- if I can figure out how to use it (and find some solid samples), but the other possibility you mentioned would be much preferred... :D

mixmkr -- thanks for the post. we felt like this might be our strongest mix so far... if only we had time to go back and redo the others :(

Any other thoughts or suggestions out there?
