Hey guys, this isn't a "is this mic good?" or "Whats a good mic to get for x amount of money" post, Im already planning to purchase a ksm27 as I'm looking for an upgrade from my studio projecs b1, and ive used the ksm27 before in a past band and loved it, plus i can get it really cheap on ebay. My question is this though, : does anyone know why this mic was discontinued? Im wondering if theres a big flaw i dont know about, a malfunction or something. If anyone knows I'd appreciateit, can't find it on google.

They brought out the SM27 as the new version.

Has less noise, a higher SPL limit and stuff.
Although I prefer the look of the KSM :(

The mic is cracking, Do not regret buying it at all.

Here's some acoustic stuff I done with only an SM27 via an Apogee duet.

I added some reverb and compression with logic.

This piano was NOT recorded with the SM27 (It's the Alicia's Keys Plugin) but her voice was.

The Mic is used for the vocals and the ride cymbal on the drums in these recordings.

Thanks for the amazingly helpful response. I will definitely go ahead and get it now just wanted to make sure there wasnt a recall or anything. Cheers!

No prob!

The only problem I found with them is that with most things I record, I have to cut out about 5dB between 500-700hz.
Other than that it's a great mic that I've used for Vocals, Drum Cymbals, Guitar Amps, Bass Amps etc... and it's never failed me.

Only had it about 5/6 Months though :P

They do get scooped up quickly when they show up for sale.

I got a KSM27 from a friend for $90 (his asking price, not me low-balling him). I have used as an overhead for drums, vocals, guitar cab mic. I love it. I kind of wish I had 2 or three more for larger recording projects.
