Is it just me or is this spam thing starting to pick up in here?

I mean is there no way to find out who these people are and prevent this? IP addresses? General locations where they come from?

I'm getting this feeling that the people involved are well aware how much it pisses some people off and are starting to get cocky...

I know it has to be the same group of people.

The volume does seem to have increased in recent months but trust me - they don't give a rat's ass about who they piss off. You're giving this site too much credit.

Yeah, I figured as much. I definitely don't get angry with it, it just seems to dull what used to be a good casual experience.

I guess I'm definitely giving it too much publicity.

To paraphrase "Team America: World Police"...

You mother and your dog and so do you!

Everyone has spam :D

Not much that can be done about it.

I dont' remember, but there might be an image verification during sign up (where you have to enter the letters shown in the box) to prevent robots from signing up automatically. If there's not, that will help. Otherwise, there's really not much else you can do.

Oh well.

Unless something has changed since I joined, that's not the case at HR.

The SPAM does annoy me. It's more that the owner of the site doesn't put in the anti SPAM measures that most sites today have.
For example:

1) Active Admins and Moderators! The report button seems useless.
2) Image verification.
3) Updating vBulletin with newer versions.

I guess I don't like the hopeless feeling I get. I'd rather get SPAM email. At least then I have the control to delete it.

If you REALLY want to get rid of Walters, you must make yourself blind to his ways. Ignorance IS bliss. :D

Click this if you dare: Bye Walters

I'll field that one Glen if you don't mind.

Spam in any form is an effort for you to buy a product or service. Spam can be from either a legitimate business or a con artist posing as a legitimate business.

Walters, on the other hand, is a troll. A troll generally does not try to get you to offer up your credit card number. Instead, it tries to elicit a response. The more negative the response, the more satisfied the troll becomes until it begins to feel a sense of worth that it has to date been unable to obtain from the rag-tag community we laughingly call "the internet."

It has occurred to me more than once that if one were to happen upon a spammer face to face, and if one were to, like, open his skull and spill the contents, one might not incur any adverse reaction from the local population or law enforcement. In fact, one might get a few free beers out of it.

Ya think?

Also one reason the Spammers must LOVE these forums is the fact that their posts aren't deleted!!!!!!

There is an "Evidence Locker " that these Spam posts are SAVED on these forums!

Ok I can see an evidence locker to save flame wars, trolls, etc. But pure SPAM should be instantly deleted, and the I.P. address blocked.

But you may ask, why is that a big deal. Well at least 2 reasons come to mind.

1) Google and other search crawlers searches the homerecording.com for Key Words. Now, someone might Google search for something and be brought to homerecording.com's Evidence Locker to a SPAM post and subsequently be subjected to the advertisements. And maybe someone accidentally clicks one of those links and gets a Trajan, Adware, Malware, Virus, what have you. Meanwhile some asswipe in the Malaysia or India gets 0.3 cents for the click (no offense to Malaysians or Indians, it was just an example).

2) Obviously.... wasted space, bandwidth, efficiency, & money in regards to this website.

I dont know about you lot but i like this sort of a Ratio: Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording, Spam, Recording, Recording, Recording, Recording,

But this place is more like: Spam, Spam, Spam, Recording, Spam, Spam, Spam, Recording, Spam, Spam, Spam...Tit wank!

Walterness is next to impossible :D

And the difference between spam and Wally is the difference between misuse and abuse.

The problem is that there are no moderators here and the admin leaves the site to run itself with no input. You who wanted total anarchy? Here it is.
