Not those guys who stand at the traffic light who hold up a sign saying homeless, God Bless?

But specifically like for the snare drum, to give it some crack? And also for the kick.

A Transient shaper can make a huge difference, there are several available. Used correctly, judiciously? They can make a huge impact to your finished product. Did anyone see the SouthPark episode? Change? Change?

I use TesslaPro on all my masters. No clue what it does, but it works wonders somehow!

i'm a big fan of Stillwell Audio's Transient Monster and the SPL attacker, although i was slightly miffed that i had a free version of the attacker from years ago and when i got a new laptop and copied it across it no longer works and is no longer free!

You need to be careful when using those shapers on a snare. There is a lot of mid and high frequency content within that initial transient. Cutting it down, (or even setting the attack too short on a compressor,) can reduce the crack too much making the drum sound more dull or choked.
