Your thoughts on the GRETSCH RENOWN MAPLE ROCK SET (24"x16" Bass Drum (w/o Tom Tom Holder), 13"x09" Tom Toms, 16"x16" Floor Tom) - thinking about getting a new kit for approximately 1500 dollars (without hardware) - want good drums for recording and also live gigs - is this a good choice for rock, alternative music?

Yes. Love that bass drum size.

My daughters (and mine too) drum instructor has this set in the baby blue. He said they are as close to custom built as you can get. He's been playing gretsch drums his whole career and also says they are the best he's ever had! He plays live and records with his band(s) as well.
