Ok (thanks for responding)
I am quite frustrated. I want to record some songs. I am not an aspiring star or the next Trent Reznor, MOBY, whoever. I don't even really listen to any of them. I just have very recently developed a strong passion for learning to record electronic music. I have NOTHING. I have always been a guitarist or a drumer in a band. I have 3 Fender guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, a rather extensive drum kit, and amps. HOWEVER!!! I am in Munich Germany and not back home in the states. Here I have NOTHING. As dismall as that sounds, I LOVE IT!!! I want to start all over. I have a good job and resonable access to music stores. However I do nto speak German and so I can not ask ANYONE anything. How do people learn this stuff? As I said on the web site I want to record WITHOUT A COMPUTER music that is comparable to MOBY's latest album "Play". That is a big deal I know and I in no way expect to do it over night. However I want to know what I need. Please pretend I am 6 years old and have never heard of a multi-track recorder or anything. WHich is not far from the truth. Right now I have around $2,000 NOT A DIME MORE!!! $2,000 is pushing it to the limit of credit. I am quite poor. I just started my first job in Munich and that is why I (think I have) the money to do this. Here is what I want to do:

1.) I want to have a drum device of some kind. Not real drums, but something that can sound like real drums but also like a ton of trash being dropped from a truck. Weird noises are a must as well as passable real drum sounds. I also have to be able to program is to not sound like a cheesey Casio Keyboard for $50 from Sears playing the same 4/4 beat over and over.

2.) Some keyboard synthesizer with as many sounds as possible. I want to be able to sound like a 32 piece orchestra and also like the same garbage truck. I will use this as the main instrument source. Of course I will need a multi track recorder so I will be able to use the same keyboard to record many many layers.. hense the 32 piece orchestra.

3.) A portable recorder to record exterman sounds, for example I want to be able to go down to the Underground Subway station here in Munich with this thing. Record the underground trains' doors cloosing. Then come home and be able to make that sound play in a specific beat with the existing drum sounds. FOr example if the drum machine is playing the kick drum on beats 1 and 3 I want the sound of the train doors closing on beats 2 and 3. (only a stupid example) but a good one. I have heard that a Mini Disc is good for recording like that. But it doesn't synchronise it with the drum sounds.

4.) And the most important piece (I guess). A Multi-Track recorder. I have no idea what is the advantages and the disadvantages of aDAT and analogue recorders. I assume that I can use the Mini Disc for down mixing to stereo but other than that.... No idea? I knwo that an aDAT multi-tracker is almost my whole budget if not more. Is ti worth it? I want as close to ZERO background noise as possible. I know that when you start overlaying tracks you build up background noise. Is that true with an aDAT? I don't have a computer... I hate computers... they are all in German here anyway...so please do not say... Buy a computer.

I hope you can help me. I wish I could tell you how important this is to me. I feel helpless because I am a stranger in a strange land. All my life I heard... teh best techno electronic music comes from Europe... so you'd think I was in the right place. LAnguage berriers are a bitch. I just need some advice? What can I do?

Thank you SOOOO much!!!
Mike
