I've been wanting to post this for a while now and keep forgetting to do it. A few months ago I thought it would be a good idea to store my pancakes of tape in food saver bags. I figured it would keep out the dust and moisture. Good idea? I can fit 1 1/2" reel in 1 bag and the food saver sucks the air out of the bag. Did I do a good thing or not? I just wanted to throw it out and see what my analog friends thought.

To me that sounds like a good idea, but I'd really be interested to know how the experts feel.

If the vacuum is strong enough to suck every last bit of air out of the bag, then it stands to reason that it will also end up deforming the flanges on the reel...not good.

This might be of benefit only for pancakes of tape only.

Healthy tape storage is also a question of the temperature and here, you're looking for temps around 60 to 70 degrees F. And keeping the reel stored vertical on edge. A pancake on edge may still do damage if it's not in a proper storage box.

Cheers! :)

I didn't realize about keeping them vertical. The unit I use is not as strong as it use to be. You could also put hardened plastic to keep the tape from being deformed in any way. Thanks for the tips Ghost.
