The final mixdowns are lifeless

Maybe you've thought of / checked this, but I'm thinking perhaps you've got some settings going on in Windows with your sound that help the mix, but don't translate to a final burn.

ie: in your audio setup in windows you've got the bass and treble up and so when you listen to the mix on your computer speakers / monitors / headphones FROM the computer it's sounding good, but when you burn down to cd and listen in the car / home stereo / etc. there's not that added dimension from the Windows sound so it sounds more lifeless.

just a thought.

I get some damned good, bright, crisp sound on my burns from Cool Edit / Adobe Audition. I burn at 4x (the slowest my 48x burner will go) and I compress the mixdown a little. Sounds great in the car etc.
