I have clarifed my recurrence of static distortion through process of elimination; & this is my last shot in the discussion forums prior to the equipment goin' out window. I am running CWPA9 using an M-Audio Omni I/O Desktop Audio Station & Delta-66 PCI Card. When I record audio tracks in Cakewalk, they get corrupted with a static, crackling noise. The gain of the noise is directly proportional to the waveform (loud when the audio is loud, soft when the audio is soft.) The waveform looks normal. The noise can't be heard monitoring the track during recording, but this does not appear to be a playback problem, in that it always sounds excactly the same (I think it is embedded in the track as it is recorded.) Direct Show Audio settings are per M-Audio & Cakewalk recommendations. Delta Contarol Panel settings are per M-Audio recommendations. It happens with every microphone I own. It happens when I record MIDI as audio from my sound module (Roland JV-1010.) I have swiched cables; & rerouted them away from my monitor & other equipment. I have moved the Card to other PCI Slots; & it now only shares an IRQ assignment (3) with my modem, which has been disabled. I don't think it's a ground loop because it doesn't happen all the time (only 75% of the time.)
I know this sounds like a quiz, but I sure am in need of some serious help. It's a real letdown to record a near perfect track, only to find out it sounds like static paper crunching. Thanks.
Sincerely,
