I have clarifed my recurrence of static distortion through process of elimination; & this is my last shot in the discussion forums prior to the equipment goin' out window. I am running CWPA9 using an M-Audio Omni I/O Desktop Audio Station & Delta-66 PCI Card. When I record audio tracks in Cakewalk, they get corrupted with a static, crackling noise. The gain of the noise is directly proportional to the waveform (loud when the audio is loud, soft when the audio is soft.) The waveform looks normal. The noise can't be heard monitoring the track during recording, but this does not appear to be a playback problem, in that it always sounds excactly the same (I think it is embedded in the track as it is recorded.) Direct Show Audio settings are per M-Audio & Cakewalk recommendations. Delta Contarol Panel settings are per M-Audio recommendations. It happens with every microphone I own. It happens when I record MIDI as audio from my sound module (Roland JV-1010.) I have swiched cables; & rerouted them away from my monitor & other equipment. I have moved the Card to other PCI Slots; & it now only shares an IRQ assignment (3) with my modem, which has been disabled. I don't think it's a ground loop because it doesn't happen all the time (only 75% of the time.)

I know this sounds like a quiz, but I sure am in need of some serious help. It's a real letdown to record a near perfect track, only to find out it sounds like static paper crunching. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Your not the only one with the problem. I dont think there is a single person who has had this problem with the Delta series cards. I found that VIA chipset had something to do with it, along with the delta drivers. Use drivers .27, not the newest. The Delta series are very good sounding cards, but lately ive been very pissed off about their driver support and these clicking problems. I actually still havnt been able to fix the problem using the Asio drivers.

I have a "crakling paper" problem with the Delta 66 and omni I/O as well....but its not as bad as yours. See my thread on this forum :-

Also, my problem is intermittant. What makes it worse is when I switch off the omni box, leaving just the soundblaster on. Maybe the cable I am running from the soundblaster to the omni acts as an aerial, picking up stray noise.

When its at its worst, if you scroll down a page using the slider on the right of the screen, the noise is continuous all the time the scrolling action is taking place. And in all programs. TV repair men used to call this "screen on sound". And strangely, its worse at night, after the computer has been on all day. So maybe it builds up some kind of static charge that discharges over night when it is switched off...and then builds up during the day again, when it is switched on.

I don't know what to suggest for your problem, sounds like you have everything covered. Strange that you don't hear it during recording though.

Post here what progress you make, if any.

I used to get this kinda stuff every now and then with my delta66 and ASIO... my solution was to switch to WDM and win2000 and now XP...

Midiman seems to be focusing the majority of the driver development on WDM and as a result the ASIO and MME support kinda takes a back seat.

I sorted the problem. There were two issues, a faulty 'Y' lead (brand new!) from the monitor o/puts of the omni, plus hooking the delta into the s/b.

So I plugged both the omni and the s/blaster into a stereo dual socket adaptor and then plugged that into my crappy speaker system input. For some reason, the faulty lead seemed to amplify all the h/d noise. The only way I can get some h/d noise now is to max out the crappy active speaker system volume. But thats unreasonable anyhow, at "normal volume it sounds fine. Well, as fine as I can get outa those speakers. If I can't get any decent speakers in the near future, I might look for an inexpensive mixer, I only need a couple of channels, might even make one.

Soon as I can, I'm going to get Live synth pro so I can get rid of the s/blaster. I only need it for s/fonts.

Don't help you though, mark4man
