ADD -- blessing and curse
Did anyone ever buy these? I saw them in Guitar Center a couple years ago. I wanted to buy one, but didn't have the cash.

If you bought one, what did you think of it? What color was it, and what colors were the "splatters"?

I don't think Fender makes them anymore, but I'd still love to buy one at some point.

Wow, I've never seen those before. Look cool though. Nice paintwork.

Yes.. I'd figure "plastercaster" is the next logical step?... :D

If you really want one, the last time I was near Detroit I saw three or four at Huber Breese. That place sells a hell of a lot of fine instruments, and their inventory is well kept and in good shape. You might try to call and see if they can ship it.

Apparently, they were "limited edition" guitars...Fender only produced them for 1 year as far as I know. The only "big" difference was the paint job.
If you are interested, here are some more of the Spattercasters on ebay, with different color schemes....

A guy I work with has one of those, problem is-the paint is on the plastic pickguard and it chips away when you play it. I figured it would get a clear coat over it????

Splattercasters!

I have a black splattercaster with white silver and gold thrown on it while the body was on a spinning wheel. It looks really cool and is in brand new condition.
I paid $650ish for it, but I was wondering how much its worth now. I heard there was a demand for them now, and I am looking at a Gibson Thunderbird IV.

My local shop used to have a ton of these maybe 2 years ago roughly.

$650!!?? I hope you're not in the US. Those were blown out everywhere for $299 because their sales were terrible. I know our store couldn't get rid of them either.

A vintage strat from the late 50's or early 60's is a great example of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". They are the strats that are desirable,
It's what has fueled the relic guitar insanity.
With all the bells and whistles of modern strats....the initial basic leo fender design...with the heavy metal trem block...the nitro laquar paint jobs...the original 6 screw floating trems...the staggered magnet pickups...and the Kluson keys... still rocks.
Mexican standard strats with splatter paint jobs...IMO...will never be worth much. It's a mex strat no matter what the paint job says.

A local guitar shop has an American tele with that type of paint job. It is really heavy, it weighs more than a heavy Les Paul. It has been hanging there for quite a while now, it sounds kinda crappy.

I have a jap strat copy from the 80s called a "Zender Splaterblaster".

Pretty sure MF was blowin em out a few years ago due to low sales!

it looks like a giant bird took a dump on a strat from a few miles above.
