Hello, Thanks 4 this great forum :)

I'm thinking to build home studio for Dubbing japanese Animation and vocal stuff

So I'm really confused about what do I need, some ppl says that i don't need to mixer, others say i need it... also I don't really know what's the most Appropriate Microphone's i have to get for this purpose.

- we are group of 4-6 guys, want to record our voice's as animation characters (Dubbing), just as a hobby.
- we seek for recording high quality voices, High purity,
without any air noises.
- I think two Microphones will be enough.
- we need to get our records directly to pc to edit it.
- budget is around 800-1000$.

is the Mixer so important in this case to get high quality records? becouse what I think AS A NOOB that's Connecting A good microphone (With A popfilter) to the pc will do the jop :P

best regards :)

Hey White Beard welcome to the forums.......
An interface with 2 microphone preamps should do ya and probably 2 EV re-20s for microphones will do the job nicely.

What do you use as a DAW now?

Now you don't have to purchase this stuff new these items can be found used all day long on ebay or craigs list at less than half of their going new prices.

Here's what you need:

1. an interface - replaces the junk soundcard in your computer and gives you places to plug mics in

2. computer - any is fine, 1 GB RAM minimum

3. mic(s)

4. monitor speakers (could use home stereo speakers in a pinch)

5. music recording program - Reaper is free to try for awhile

Use the search function up top to get info on "mic", "interface" and "speakers" because those are the three decisions you need to make. You will need a few cables.

The mics will make the most difference of any single piece in the chain, make them the main chunk of your budget.

I tend to buy used.

Hi, moresound :)

I got it about the interface, but what do u mean by microphone "preamps"?
and how do u c Shure mics?

about the DAW, i haven't use anyone yet, i was thinking to use adobeprimere, but i don't know if its do what i need, whats ur recommend?

thanks alot 4 ur useful advices :)

For what you're doing, you might be able to do it right on Premiere. I have an old version, i just ran it. It's got three stereo audio tracks, one could be music and the other two could be 1 mic each, or you could put a mic left and a mic right on a stereo track.

Whatever interface you get will have preamps - those bring the mic volume up to a useable level.

I've used the Lexicon Omega and it sounds great. Here's one that went ultra cheap recently: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lexicon-Omega-D...125?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5e46ad85

Most Lexicons go for around $85 (used) and that would easily be good enough.

That Lexicon is an interface, and it also contains preamps. There's lots of different brands. Presonus is another good company.

Then you'd just need 2 mics, cables and some speakers.

everything that the other guys said and as for your mics I'd look into condenser mics if you want to get the high quality voices you're looking to get.

Thanks my dear, this is helpfull stuff, specially cus i feel the studio room may be a bit Drafty, i'll get one of those stuff.

Hey Ty .... did you check out any used EV re-20 microphones?

Shure microphones will do the trick as well, depends on what model(s) you have been looking at.

You should really down load Reaper as your DAW for it is free until you decide if it is for you or not.

I'm not sure if it comes with a effects bundle or not but again there are plenty of free digital effects that you can down load for some really cool effects that can help to give your voices a special effect like reverse re verb, flanging, gender bending to make your voice sound like a pixie or a gruffy old man, to a woman. It really helps to bring out the character in a part.
