the confused producer now wonders the difference between...different optical cables

someone once told me that another good key to quality sound is the type of cabling that you use in your setup. i know this is true for 1/4 inch cabling, but what about optical cabling. i have two $20 cables i use in my setup. last week i saw that they have optical cables up to $100......would my sound be cleaner if i purchased two of those????

what types of cabling to you recommend for both 1/4 inch and optical?????
 
There are different grades of fibre cable, so I would assume that the difference in price would account for the different grades. I don't know how much of a difference it would make, or what the actual differences are in teh cable grades - possibly better flexibility etc. We are dealing with optical digital signal, so electrical interference isn't a factor. Either way, I reckon you'd need a pretty seriously tuned set of ears to pick the difference in quality between $20 and $100 optical cables ;).

thanks gaffa, that's a start....i just don't wanna go out and buy a $100 set of optical cables and see that they are not any different than the $20 pair that already have.
