so I am gonna record roots music. I want a flattering warm full bodied type sound. I have nailed it down to these
Either I will get a v67g or a 4047 not sure but I think I will record with one mic and just double track the guitar. What do you guys know about these preaamps? how about the mics and combos of the two. what types of soudns would I get?

You will get where you want with any of what you have listed.
Get which offers the features you want.
The brick and the DMP-3 are pres only without compressors.
I love my V67G, itis a good mic. I don't have actual experiance with the AT.

Really all the mics and presyou are looking at excell at acoustic oriented stuff. Mic placement and Talent at playing / tracking / mixing will play more a factor.

What Tmix said.

They're all solid and capable of good results.

It comes down to which offers the feature set you need; how many channels you need, and whether or not you want/need a compressor or limiter, or if you just need the mic pres.

The AT mic will probably give you a cleaner and richer sound with better build quality and consistancy than the V-67.

The brick is big and warm... it's always been described as really wide sounding if that's what you're looking for.

I've used all of the above. By far your best bet is the AT4047 and the Brick. They are in a different league than the other two. But...

That being said, they're all pretty good pieces of equipment. It just depends how much you want to spend. You'll get good value either way. :)

the brick sounds like what I want. However I need to be able to pay monthly like on a plan. Musiciansfriend does this but doesn't carry it. Should I email em and ask if something can be worked out? What are some similar (soundwise) pres around the brick's price range?

The brick is unique because it is the only REAL tube preamp at a price like that. It's not a starved plate design and no other manufacturer's have gotten to that point with their "tube" products so unfortunately you're not going to get the same kind of thing for 300-350 (after haggling with guitar center people). At that price, it's not really that large of an investment either but if you need a payment plan, I think any music chain has their own credit card which includes one as a benefit.

In my opinion, even paying full street price for it is a pretty good deal. I'm going to be posting a review of it in the next week or two.

The brick would be a great choice, and while I've never purcahsed from there, I saw JBSound.com offer's a free AT2020 with the purchase of The Brick.

Don't you have a credit card? Sure, the interest rate is high, but if you NEED IT NOW, a CC will get it. Otherwise, wait until you've saved up for it. If you can't get a CC for some reason, you probably won't even get approved for a Store CC.

I have a Tampa and a Joe Meek, but if i was to do it again i would of got a DMP3, and used extra money on a new guitar....

The Brick is very nice. It's probably my favorite pre that I own right now. It's an outstanding bass DI as well.

Exactly. And store credit cards are scams FYI. Look at the interest rate, if you don't pay it off within the limit, you don't just start paying intrest at that point, you have to pay ALL the back interest from the previous months too. :(

This is why man created the piggy bank.

but if you pay on time then your good. Which one lets me pay by the month of the ones listed?

What would the sound difference be between a dmp3 and the 4047 and the brick with the at4047?

and as far as flattering and warm goes how does the 4047 match the v67?
