Hi All: I did some reflecting tonight on how I came to love the blues. These songs are recorded on a 1938 kalamazoo. Walter

the blues of yesterday and today
days of the blues tradition

I find it ever increasingly sad that the blues tradition, and most apprentiencship art traditions are dying off too quickly. The technology boom, which has been going on for as long as man has been trying to make his day less labor intensive, is a major cause. The way technology is moving today, it is really changing this area fast. It use to be you had to physically seek out to learn. Now it is all pretty much available on the computer screen, dvds, and videos. One can learn to perfection from these mediums, but will not learn the main note- that of one soul passing it on to another- the master to the student. This does not involve money exchange or any worldly goals. It is just something that has to be done when a real student meets a real master. I do not consider myself a bluesman, just someone that is driven to learn from those that inspire me. You can buy real good belguim beer here in the states, that is made here, but it will never taste as good as having one in a small belgian village, with the locals. That is the soul note I am talking about and ever increasingly our culture is eliminating it from the vocabulary of the soul. I imagine soon only those that are removed from the mainstream will reconize this note. My Mentally Retarded high school students know that note better than most any other. The way their brains are wired stop at this point and the abstract learning methods are of no meaning. I learn a lot from them everyday. Inspiration comes from many angles, but we can never eliminate the face to face meetings and get to the real root of it all. Walter

Spontobeat strikes again Walter...do you ever rest?

great stuff again..

That's a real good blues song Walt. The words are very true. No one has to do anything anymore. Just click a button and it's at your fingertips. Lots of feeling in this one.

thanks guys! I rest alot when I sleep :) I have always been driven to do things and can keep crazy hours while working full time. I have lots of energy when inspired, and I am usually inspired. My wife has grown use to me being up at all hours over the past 30 years. I am blessed to be able to take cat naps for a few minutes here and there that allow me to stay awake alot. NBC News was by my house today after I got home from work to shoot a segment for tomorrow nights newscast. It should be interesting what they do with an hour of playing/interviewing boiled down to a couple minutes. I am also working with a filmaker that is doing a documentary on my life. Nigel Price, an author from england, who is writing a book on my life, hopefully will be asking the interview question/conversation, via a speaker phone from england. Life is good! Walter

I just got off the phone with the NBC people. They are airing a 30 minute show @ 7:30 the night after thanksgiving that is going to feature their best human interest stories of the year that were done around central ohio. My story is going to be on it and they want me to do 7 songs of at least 2 minutes that will be used throughout the show for lead ins, commercial breaks, etc. They are sending me the subjects of the stories and I can do whatever I want with it. This is exciting. Walter

fantastic..I dont get NBC up here so if someones recording it or getting it on youtube gimme a shout..Id love to see it

I hope this is the start of bigger things for you Walter..you seem a very unique talent :)

have fun with it :)

Walt, that's amazing. I'm happy for you. Please remind us all about the program a day or so before it airs. Are you nervous at all? You've been in the spotlight before so I guess this is not as stressing as it could be.

That is awesome Walter~! Congratulations:)

I definitely want to see that...make sure to remind us as it gets closer:cool:!

hi dodgeaspen: I am excited to give this a shot. In the past, I have said flat out no way when it was suggested I sing about specific things. I guess the biggest was being asked to play on the color of money soundtrack by robbie robertson. I said no to that one because they wanted me to do a rehearsed thing with him and clapton for a week or two and it would only be a couple songs. I couldn't do that. That sounds kind of crazy to me at the moment, but at the time, I was hardcore spontobeat or nothing. Today I might go out and give it a shot- what the heck. If it was too restrictive a scene I would just come home. Am I nervous? Not at all. I am thankful to be able to have such an opportunity come my way once again. Walter
