What is the best way to capture an acoustic guitar when recording? I have a Fender Acoustic / Electric guitar and I'm wondering do the best results come when you plug it straight from your guitar to the mixer or have it mic'ed? I've tried it both ways and I've found myself liking it better when mic'ed that plugged in but I still can't capture that really good acoustic sound that I get when I'm playing it. I know its probably my sound card since I'm currently using the stock sound card that came with my PC in my system. But I'm getting a Delta 44 really really soon so that should help out alot.

So, I want some opinions on what you all think is the best way to capture that acoustic guitar sound the best way.

What mic are you using? What sorta preamp? Where is the mic placed? There are tons of factors that go into getting a good sound.

For acoustic miced is the way to go in my opinion. Most people will suggest some sort of condensor. I use a Crown CM700 and I really like the sound I can get outta that. I run it into a Behringer board, which is far from the greatest board, but it still seems to work alright. I aim the mic somewhere between the 12th fret and the soundhole, Im not real methodical about it. Its more like throw a mic there and start playin. Works for me.

I have, in the past, recorded line and mic and tried to mix or choose between the two.
As far as mic placement, experiment and see what you like.
