I am looking to know these basics about recording.

- the people involved in a recording studio (engineer, musicians etc.)

- the general order in which a song is recorded

- the average cost of recording a song/album etc.

- anything else that should be known

* I hope someone can answer back with more info. as to the subheadings I have listed. It would be most helpful.

you can use the search function on this forum (top right hand corner of the page) or go to www.google.com. These will give you LOTS of answers to these questions

Producer, recording engineer(s), assistant engineer(s), songwriter(s), musicians, the intern to get coffee late at night, accountants, lawyers, secretarial staff, usually a nerdy looking guy that fixes all the broken stuff too.

- the general order in which a song is recorded

Generally, it's drums, bass, rythm instruments, lead instruments, lead vocals, backing vocals, There is a LOT of leeway here. It depends greatly on the style of music, the recording engineers style, and whether or not the intern is back with the coffee yet.

- the average cost of recording a song/album etc.

This number can vary depending on a few things. Are you including duplicating and artwork? Advertising? Are you using the actual band or session musicians? If you have a major label behind you, it could cost $100,000. If you're in a home studio it might not cost you anything but time.

- anything else that should be known

There's so much else to know that I don't even know where to start. I would also suggest the 'search' feature, It's hard to answer questions that havent been asked. Do you have a specific project in mind? Particular requirements? A budget? Ask some more specific questions, and I'm sure you'll get the answers.
