i beleive i should probaly clean the heads of this machine, but how would i get that done? just a regular head cleaner?

and i was wondering how powerful this machine is. is it worth it to continue with it? ive had some good sounds out of it, but latetly ive been lost. i was thinking about somehow switching to digital with more than 4 simultaneous tracks. i think im just under-educated about this whole thing. i read bits and pieces and try to pick it up between things.

im transferring everything from line out to an audiophile 24/96 and it works okay. id like some real nice depth in the guitars and voice. i dont have enough mics to mic every guitar twice.

i usually record everything live. would it be much more beneficial if i had everyone track?

im in a rut. help me guys!
confused as hell,

:D Yo Bronto:

From what I've read, those "cleaning tapes" for tape decks are not recommended. However, I use them on my cassette decks. I guess they are liable to scratch the heads but I've had no problem with them.

The 488 was a good SIAB. For using that skinny-assed tape, it got the 8 tracks in there pretty good. But, maybe you should think about and research some of the 8 or more track digital boxes. Once you push the return to start button on a digital box, you will never want to wait for tape to rewind.

Yeah, I know the tape guys don't mind waiting. Whatever makes you happy is important.

Don't buy anything until after January 1, 2006. Should be some good sales then.

I use the Yam 2816--since that box, Yam has put out a couple of similar, supposedly easier to use SIABs. And, there is a nice forum for those models.

I see the SIAB becoming easier to use unless it dies due to the mass of PC programs available. Or the PC programs becoming "voice command" programs. Maybe I'm too far ahead of myself? But, things like that will be coming forth. I wouldn't be surprised if chips become crytals--sounds good to me, like on Krypton.

I would think that a digital SIAB that has 12 to 16 tracks would be plenty for the averagle home studio. I seldom use more than seven tracks for my stuff and less than that for clients who sing to canned music.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and a cool Yule.

Green Hornet :) :D
