TelePaul

J to the R O C
New song up, a cover of The Jam's "That's Entertainment".

Couple of interesting things about this one. Firstly, I've shunned my usual penchant for loops and synths; percussive elements are just me hitting/shaking things. Secondly, it's probably the only track I've posted where I've sung - apologies in advance for the latter!

So, all instruments, including the glockenspiel solo, by TelePaul, as well as vocals, mixing and a bit of 'mastering' via T Racks.

It's a cool song for one made up in a drunken stupor in 20 mins.
This is fresh, interesting look at it - I've always had a vague suspicion that Weller ought to have developed it into a full Jam song rather than an almost throw away acoustic that became #1 - but I can't argue with the #1!
Nice treatment you've given it though - more reflective than the urgent original but then the lyrics lend them selves to it.
You voice manages quite well - you've pitched it within your limits & succeeded.
Nice one!

Dude that was really cool TP. Your voice sounded fine man. Nice mix too. If I had to critique anything, I think the reverb on some of that percussion is a little too bright. It's not bad, it's just the decay is a little too shimmery.

Really nice overall bro. :)

That sounds just great Paul, you sound very good on the vocals and instumentally as well. Sounds better than a lot of my stuff, thats for sure!:o
Is that the Martin D-15 as well as the Tele backing you up?

Nothing to be ashamed of with your voice, Paul....sounds great!
I don't know the original, so this is very fresh for me. Nice guitar work. Mix sounds very nice and the rattling stuff gives it a nice colour. Everything's nicely balanced. Nice work!

Hi guys. Writing this from the pub! Thanks for the kind words. I'd never noticed how nasally my voice is until now! But you're right, I've gone for Bb as it's the only key I'm mildly capable of hitting the notes in. The guitar is the d15 alright, but the strings were probably on the rusty side! The electric is the trusty yamaha pacifica played with fingers.

Nice sound on the mix...vocals are cool...
The panning works well here between the guitars and percussion.
The pacifica has some nice pop/snap/reverb....
Good job no nits for me.....:D

Cool tune.

I hear a little extra noise in the acoustic track maybe?

I might eq the highs down on the hat a little.

Good work,

Thanks dude! I played the Pacifica with fingers to give it some 'honk' :)

Possibly...not sure TBH. There's an elctric rhythm in there too which has some string noise - and a 12 string which can be a bit noisy too. Not sure really.

Hat? As in hi-hatt? I think what you're hearing is a shaker, but maybe it's a bit bright. Thanks!

For some reason the Jam never did it for me but I always liked this song. Your version has a bit more of a laid back groove from what I remember of the original but it still works. Very good rendition
