Peace RTDCORE! Are you refering to the "Whirring, sound contouring/phasing" by the keyboard at the end of the record by
KrissKross?

is is the high-pitch melody thingy that dre uses it in a lot of beats, such as nuttin but a g thang? if thats what you're referring to those sounds are on synthesizers, called "leads" theres usually a whole bunch of different ones, but you can use any sound for it, just play real high up

That Lead sound..............

hey, i just joined now, and noticed that ur also lookin for the same type of sound i want aswell! its sort of like a high pitched whine, and i want to find lots of songs that have that in the background! it just reeply annoying coz i cant find any others apart from kriss kross's jump! its reely addictive, so if any1 has any info wot so ever with songs with that in the background, id like to know! thanks alot

I think that is what he is talking about, a "Lead"

Analog synths.

Typically in rap you will hear Moogs such as a Minimoog or a Rogue. I know Dr. Dre has a Minimoog in his studio.

Nowadays you'd probably try to use a virtual analog synth. Those don't sound so hot outside of the middle range, so don't expect it to be 100%.

A good modern substitute is a Studio Electronics SE1x. Not exactly cheap and its a rackmount. If you had to get a VA synth the Alesis Ion offers a lot of sonic punch for not a lot of money.

If you want to get old school hip hop, get a Prophet 5. Rare, expensive, unreliable but sounds great... I have a mint Midi P5 rev 3.2 in my possession that's been my baby for 4 years now.
