We thought maybe you'd dropped off the face of the earth. Glad you're still around. Thanks for making a sticky pointing to the HR FAQ (even though the link doesn't appear to work this morning.) Maybe the site's down for renovation?

Yep. FINALLY got around to it. Things are going good. I've been extremely busy for quite a few months now. It's to be back home here... Hopefully I'll be able to stay and do some playing here a bit.

RE,

Are you still "moderating" this forum or has it been let go like most of the others here?

If by "moderating" you mean deleting SPAM, contacting the SPAMMERS, and the likes, then yes. If by "moderating" you mean babysitting and saying something when people contact me saying this or that person is being mean, then no.

OK, thanks for the reply.

BTW, if your last comment refers to a PM I sent you in August, I suggest you look it up and reread it..............the issue I was addressing was a little more than a case of someone being mean.

My last comment was refering to nothing specific at all.

LMAO..............no probs.

I just had a look around your studio website, nice presentation..............what mics did you have set up as o/heads in that pic?

Thank you for checking out the site. It needs a some sort of logo and banner to replace the cheesy ones on there now, but they do their job for now I suppose.

The OH in that picture are my matched-pair of Neumann TLM-103s. They are pretty much the only mics I use for OH. I'll probably start using my matched-pair of DS-1950 as OH half the time, once they arrive.

Of course, I'd love a pair of AKG 451s with omni caps, modded by Stephen Paul Audio or a pair of Neumann/Telefunken KM53/253s or KM56/256s and eventually have them modded by SPA, but that won't be happening for many, many years, if ever.

If the DS-1950s do end-up working extremely well as OHs, I'd consider selling my matched-pair of 103s (consecutive serial numbers in the upper 3xxx) with all accessories in a Neumann flight case; if I could get a reasonable amount for them. Think I can get $1300? If so, I'd consider it and put toward a single KM56.

RE you are the MAN! Just when I was getting depressed about the FAQ dropping out of existence, you go ahead and sticky the thing. This is AWESOME! Thank you very much.

I'll start doing some heavy duty updating in December (winter break!), and FINALLY get crazydoc's phantom power thing up. Sorry about that.

Thanks again RE. This is really frickin' cool, and hopefully people can get their answers much faster now.

Oh, and welcome back!

RE, nice to see you back.

If you are interested in dropping by, we are doing another marathon session recording Aroarah on December 6 in Orangevale.

The producer and engineer from the label are coming up from LA for the weekend and bringing 16 channels of ADAT. They will be working with the girls on polishing up their tunes and recording all of it.

Like last time, they'll use our RAMSA 20-channel board and mics. Nothing fancy, SM57 on amps, ATM25 on drums, pair of ancient electret condensors for overheads. Bass is Countryman DI, 13 channels in all.

Bruce,

Thank you for the invite. Absolutely I'll come hang out! Where in Orangevale?

If you want, I'll bring some gear with me...

Could bring a few mics. Could also bring a preamp or two and/or a compressor or two. Could even bring an HD24. I got rid of all my portable rack cases, but if you have one or two I can use for easy transporation, bringing a few rack pieces would be no hassle at all. Or, if you just want to keep it as simple as possible, I understand. I'll just show-up with few cool mics and possibly a nice compressor.

Just let me know.
I'm looking forward to it!

The girls are recording inside Japan Auto Care on Main Ave, just south of Greenback, and across the street from the mobile home park.

Acoustics are pure merde, as expected inside a working garage. Concrete floors, very high ceiling, and lots of Calendar Babes on the walls.

As for toys, bring just yourself this time. The show is not under my control, but directed by the two guys from the label. Their engineer is bringing his own ADATs, and using my mics and console. The session will go until the wee hours Sunday morning, and I don't want your gear trapped in a session. It is entirely live session recording, and no overdubbing.

I'm sure this is going to be FAR more primitive than what you are used to. No gobos, no sound treatment, no iso booths. No nuttin'. I have many sets of fresh ear plugs.

:D

We will have the gear in place the night before. Jack and I will be there 0800 Saturday morning for final setup, sound checks, etc. The girls arrive around 0900 and the label guys then or a bit later. I hope to have my DAW completed by then, and want to take some feeds off the board into my Q10 card.

Ouch! That's gonna hurt.. With not an ounce of absorption or diffusion anywhere, it's gonna be as much of a "wash" as recording in the middle of one of the parking structures downtown! Cool!

[I've been there.]

I'm just surprised two guys from a label are driving up from LA for that. Forget about gear. I'm surprised the engineer's one and only request wouldn't be a bunch of gobos or at least blankets hanging on mic stands, considering it's a live multitrack recording set in the most extreme acoustics you could possibly set yourself in; and it's on purpose!

Japan Auto Care... That's not the studio in Orangevale where a garage mechanic owner built a studio for his son in the back of his shop, is it? I know it's around here somewhere on Greenback or Main. Don't know the name of the studio or the name of the person who owns it though.

A few mics gone for even a few days is not a big deal, but yeah, I'll just bring myself then. I just thought I'd offer. What time should I show?
