Somewhere, in one for these very helpfull forums, someone mentioned that the C5900 had a rather mellow tone, sort of like a poor-man's ribbon mic. So I picked one up a while ago when they were $139 for a while. Used it on various things, and it is unique.
But it might have just paid off on a gravlley rock vocal that has sounded too shrill in the past. I tried a 4047, QTC-1, C3000, (RE20 in the past)and C5900, each to it's own track. Once mixed in, it turned out to be a nice, slightly thicker tone with the emphasis going on down lower in the midrange. I was suprised the lows didn't seem missing. They were all about 4-6" behind a screen. (Never had much luck with it up close.)
So, this may be uselles info for those of you that have real mic locker options, (mine's more of a mic-suitcase
), but hopefully I'm giving back something that will be helpfull, and thanking everyone in the process.
Cheers
