Have finally gotten some progress! Thanks to all for the support. Unfortunately, my fears are realized, I sound bush league and my sound card sucks. DAMMIT!!! On the plus side my voice sounds decent if I sing into the mic properly (actually recording into a mic is one thing, gettin' all buzzed up & hollrin' raps out while ya stomp around the bonfire and scare the wimminfolks is another, ya know?), my rhymes sound tight, and I've created some fatty beats. ACID, easy. I'll start syncing once I master the mic. I'll keep posting in case anyone wants to witness the saga of Spinballa, such as it is.

I haven't read any of the other threads, so I may be suggesting something you already know, but I like to record vocs through a compressor/limiter. That way, you can be yourself and get a good solid recording without it being too weak or clipping - yell & scream all you want, you won't clip (as long as you have it dialed in right)

Looks like you need a new soundcard (welcome to gear-hell), so you might want to pick up a budget compressor, like an Alesis Nanoverb - you can pick one up on ebay for about 50 bucks.
