Maybe this is a stupid question and maybe not but i've never seen this in any literature. How do you test the frequency response of a microphone? Most microphones from major manufacturers come with a frequency response chart but I would like to compare my results with one of these charts.

Darius,

It is not hard. All you will need is a pink noise generator, measuring mic (ECM8000 would be fine and it is cheap), good speakers, well damped room, and some spectrum analizer software. We had this discussion about couple months ago--make a search.

I gather the point of having the reference mic is for calculating the delta between it and the mic under test?

If so, flat response speakers are not really required. The reference mic is known flat, so our tested mic response is the difference.

I have a calibrated measurement mic that came with my Rane RA30 analyzer... will have to give that a shot.
