I wasnt sure which forum to stick this under, so i picked this one. I need a mouthpiece for a tenor sax that is better than the piece of crap i use. im in high school, but, i can play very very very well, i am in all aspects of music that my school provides, i go to honors bands, you know the deal. but i want a better sound. i want a more jazzy sound. I was wondering what a good, cheaper, mouthpiece would be. if anyone would know.

thanks

What are you using now?

I play alto sax, and I like the Selmer C*
I also have a metal mouth piece (sorry, I can't rememebr the name of it) that I like a lot too.
I used to have a mouth piece that had a little metal piece inside of it. It was supposed to be a "jazz" mouthpiece. POS! Don't get one of those!

Also, what kind of reed are you using?

Vandooren makes a reed that is supposed to be for jazz, but I don't like it, it just sounds "buzzy".
If you're used to a heavy reed, a lighter one can give you more articulation.
My favorite set-up is the Selmer C* (that's C-star) mouthpiece with a Hemke #2-1/2 or #3 REED.

Im using a cheap-o-40-dalla mouthpiece. its one of those student models, and ive far outgrown those. Right now im starting to use different reeds. I have vandorens 2 1/2 and rico royal 3's. im going to use those for awhile and see if i like them. they should be a big improvement. and im bidding on a C* on ebay so i shall have one. thanks

I'm using an Otto Link metal on my tenor and love it. WoodwindBrasswind ( www.wwbw.com ) has them for $115. Nice smooth sound with lots of power.
