I've just loaded a new tune up to the web for reviewing....so how about listening to my "West Bank Paradox" a progressive music project on the Middle East...........and, letting me know what ya think, especially with regard to the audio-quality, mix, etc...........at:

oh, BTW...I use the M-Audio OMNI Studio w/Delta 66 card....and Yorkville YSM-!P active monitors & AKG 270S headphones whilst mixing....

MANY THANX

Well I'm a fan of sonic tapestry type music so I like this quite a bit. The mix leans a bit to the high mids and highs for me though. There isn't a really solid foundation. The bass is kinda missing in action. Also there is one place 5 or 6 minutes in where a cowbell hit one time is incredibly louder than the mix. You need to fix that. It is a little too long I think. I'd like to hear the different sections approached as different songs entirely. All in all I like it.

Hey Kev.
What a life.
Good work on the song.

Some day, oh yeah....

It will be nice when thing things calm down over there.
Nice, really nice.

the beginning sound effects where really great, and I was enjoying them quite a bit. When the music came in, the fidelity was entirely different, with no low end...and the drums waaaay back there. Then when you get more into the electronica stuff, the fidelity gets better. I don't see a connection between the different music segments however. The stuff with the sax solo gets even better and makes me wonder why you let the first music stuff get by... Nice sonic soundscapes....
the vocals suck, however when they come in... and the music starts to take on a general midi sound..kinda sterile...and really jumps around, idea wise.
Nice gtr wail around the late 6min mark...just before solo. speaking of which....the notes are there...but lack the 'feel' to make them 'grab' you...

on a side note...interesting bio
:)

Ah huh.
Sonic Landscape. That's the word to discribe it.

I took it, the non connection between segments, as time and event. I could be wrong, but that's what I felt when I listened to it.

Still good.

Yeah.....this ones a collage of different passages to reflect the various moods/experiences one has living in Israel.....YES, I realize that some folks don't like (or understand) the "progressive" genre approach whereby a tune can change moods or style several times throughout the song, and also it doesn't necessary have to follow a continual theme either....Take Frank Zappa for example.....he was probably the most gifted musician on the planet in his time...but a lot of his stuff was somewhat disjointed, so to speak.....I deliberately made some of the 'transitions' abrupt.....simply coz that's what living in the Middle-East is like - BOMBS don't often have a nice arrival....or transition well :-)

Thanks for the comments guys - much appreciated....

Cheers

Well I certainly understand it and I'm a major Zappa fan but even when Zappa played stuff that was almost disjointed it still had a transitionary item of some sort that brought you between the segments rather than just totally stop and then start again. I do get the "progressive" concept as it's similar to a symphonic piece with defined movements that often bear no resemblence to each other. But there is almost always some unifying theme woven in even if it's very subtle.
I'm not critisizing your piece 'cause I like it but you did ask for reviewing and the thing that pops out at me is the thought that it could use a smoother transition between the movements. The guitar work is great and I like the rhythms a whole lot. ;)

Hi Bob......

Oh of course....I appreciate any objective comments mucho :-),

....and, actually MY remarks above weren't addressed specificaly to your response here, per se...but kinda generic in nature........coz, I do get a lot of folks who really enjoy my work on the web...but I notice some of the 'younger' folks (ie: the kids mainly :-)....will remark about a 9-12 minute piece as being "way too long" or that they don't like several different passages within a single tune, etc.....

With regard to the audio quality/vol levels, etc ....I think I screwed up a bit on this one...coz I actually created seperate files for certain 'groups' of tracks (instead of just doing it all as one project) and then put the different sections together in a final mix....which didn't allow me to EQ all the tracks 'individually' on that final mix......(I don't usually do that).....and some of the sounds got muffled or lost, as you say especially the lower end stuff, bass, etc...

Thanks alot for your feedback,

KEV

Kev:

This is some wild stuff. Nice juxtapositioning of different musics to create mood. I work with Acid as well. I've been waiting for something like Acid to come along my entire life. I'm glad to see someone else using Acid to create some original music rather than the usual Acidplanet type of fair.
