Just picked up a racked pair of telefunken V672 pres.
Apparently, they are the vintage kind, with chrome covers, and those little knob thingys on the plate?

Anyone know much about em?
They sound great!

What do they usually go fer?

Also, I picked up a beat to hell Altec (Western Electric) "Birdcage" ribbon mic.

Anyone know about those? :)

ehm, if i'm correct i remember "western electric" is one of the oldest 'mic manufacturers' in the world? (think i read that in harvey gerst's Sticky on microphones;...)
does that ribbon still work? i think its "dangerous" to buy old and beatup ribbons since they're pretty fragile, but hell, who doesn't wanna own museum pieces?
my 2 cents

All of the telefunken preamps sound great:D Very fat sound and smooth high end. In my opinion they are one of the most underrated and overlooked preamps out there. Its a truly classic and vintage sound.
