ok, now I have this ...

I can have the Telefunken V372 mono racked
with gain, phanton as a fully working unit
and it would cost me about 50$ more than the TAMPA

what would you choose ?

is the V372 is really "high end" and worth the price, or should I go for the TAMPA

as for compressors I have:FAT1, RNC
and mics: Baby bottle, SP B1, sm57, sm58

any help would be very much appriciated

I can only give you info on the V372
The Telefunken V372 - is actually a TAB V372 (the first letter of the number denotes the maker - 2 for Siemens, 4 for Neuman, 6 for Telefunken, 9 for Lawo)
It's the tranny version of the V72 Tube Line Amp and was used as a module in consoles where a fixed gain of 34 db was required.
The actual mic pre amp is the 76 model which has a variable gain of 0-80fb (depending on the maker)
A V372 raw - should cost from £60 - £100
If you can solder and know a bit about electronics - adding a PSU (24 volts), a gain pot and phantom power (the schematics for the pin outs are all over the web) should not cost you more than £30 at the most.
I am getting a bit pi**ed of at the prices these racked telefunken units are going for....

thanx for the reply but you didn't actually answer me ?

how about the sound ? the level ?
