Thank Light, and everyone else, I'm definately going to switch to brass barrels. I picked up the '72 neck pup, it is going in next week. :D

We have about 2" of ice right now (and single digit temps) so I can't drive very far to get anything else (I have a Corolla, a 280z turbo and a full size van) , I'm picking up the shielding and hot rail about 30 miles from where I'm at, so I'll wait for it to melt a little. Even the main roads are mostly covered still.

....

Well the '72 didn't work :( :( :( , they are trying to fix it, on the other hand the hot rail is great. I'm rewiring it to the standard config.(w/2 caps), but with a 5 pole switch.

The comments on the three-saddle brass-barrel bridge are interesting. I would not have thought that it could make that much difference in tone.

My recently acquired MIA Deluxe Ash has the individual, chrome-plated brass saddles and it seems to have tons 'o twang - but I guess you can get even more!

You know, it could all be in my head, but I believe the 3 saddle hype. One thing that was explained to me as I was considering it was that the saddles each have the pressure of two strings pushing them down, giving the fulcum a firmer seat.

It could all be in my head, but much like the Baddass bass bridges make a big difference to my ears, so do the 3 saddle bridges.

As far as I'm concerned, there are three issues involved; the shape of the saddle, the material of the saddle (it's the saddle, so unlike the nut it is always a part of the sound), and the mass of having a saddle large enough for two strings. Which of those make the biggest difference, if any, I don't know, but that is where the difference is coming from.
