i had an awesome day today.
my occassional manager is always talking about a recent former miss america contestant who wants to be an R&B singer. i heard a horrible recording of hers that still showed that she has very good chops.
He's been trying to convince her entertainment attorney mother to bring her to his project studio to record a serious project, but to no avail.
he called yesterday asking me to come meet the singers father.
when i got to his project studio (mackie 1604, m-audio quattro, audio technica 4050) there sat the father, his 2 sons an upright bass player and a sax player. none of them over 17.
they wanted to record a demo for a prominent 'jazz camp' for which the father had secured some rather prominent recommendations for his sons.
I HAD AN AWESOME TIME.
2 overhead mics on the drums, 1 sm57 on the bass, 1 SM-58 on the sax, and a kurzweil keyboard (not a real piano) DI into the mackie 1604.
I managed to hum a few tunes of mine to the father and now he wants for his daughter to meet me.
