OK, for those who have ever bothered reading my countless post about my designs and my poopy idea's.. well these have all been in good interest and have been food for thought to this day. I have finally come to the point where I am totally re-decorating and modifying my studio.

As it currently stands, I have a rectangular room with an alcove for the bed. My tasks in order are...

*Find carpenter to build my custom desk to house my equipement.
*Gut my room
*Knock down all fixtures
*Put up new fixtures and vocal booth (in alcove)
*Re-floor the room (laminate)
* Re-paint walls and celing
* Build soffits for loudspeakers
* Bring in desk
* Wire everything up and be done with it all!

So far, ive had one carpenter OK the desk, which means I have to get on with the next difficult thing in my list, building the soffits.

The soffits will be in the corners of my room and will house my 12" 300watt loudspeakers, and my recently inherited Wharefedales. I would also like to use the lower section of the soffit for storage (if possible).

Im thinking about building it in 3, triangular sections. The lower section being for storage, middle for the Wharfedales, and the higher for the loudspeakers.

Would it be wise to fill the space around the speakers with some form of insulation? (I know i can get thick loft insulation for dirt cheap).

I will then use a filler to seal the MDF units to the wall to make sure i dont get any rumble.

As construction goes, i think it should be as simple as making prisms and stacking them, then cutting the correct size hole at the front for the speaker to peak out of.. maybe with some extra space, and then fill the gap with rubber endings?

Anyway, this is the next phase i need to plan ahead, so any tips would be great.

Any drawings, photos and measurements can be given if needed!

Don't know how much you've read through these posts, but there is some good information in here, as well as links to other sites with good info, about what you are planning to do. Something that comes to mind is the control room NL5 built fairly recently. You may want to check out his photos and info for inspiration before you tear into your project.
Good luck, man.
