wondering if two firewire units can be ran simultaneously without any recording or playback problems?

Probably, but with DICE II-based FireWire interfaces like the FireStudio series, it's anybody's guess.

I would check out Newegg.com for the firewire card. It's much cheaper.

I cannot say that they would or would not work.

The only thing I can say is make sure the firewire card has a Texas Instraments chip set. Or it could be trouble.
