I just got my 244 porta repaired and my second day recording on it, the phone rings, i TAP the stop button and CRUNCH. The button smushes under my finger and falls half into it's hole.

Does anyone know how to get to the cassette button area so I can maybe fix it myself? If anyone's done this before let me know how ya did it.

I'd hate to drive all the way back to TEAC and fix a damn button.

bummer!

seems like every time i try to fix something, i make it worse.
I took the back cover off to see if i could get to the stop button. nope. tried to put the cover back on and now one of the screws jammed in the hole and i can't get it out or screw it in. it just turns and turns.

very frustrating.

grrrr

If the button is stuck under the edge of the cutout you may be able to pull it back to center with a tiny jewelers screwdriver or a safety pin. Otherwise you would have to remove the top cover. If I remember right, that means taking the bottom cover off first to access the screws for the top. A Reel Person would probably know for sure. Hopefully he'll chime in.

To get the stripped screw out slip a knife blade or small screwdriver under the head while turning it out.

That's what I figured. I don't have the schematic so I couldn't figure out how to get to the top cover screws.
I think I'm gonna need a small file or impact driver to get the screw dislodged from the thread of the hole. It's really jammed!

The stop button is lodged halfway under the cutout. It didn't break it seems like it just popped under.

Thanks for the help!
