Teac A 3440 reel to reel tape deck issue

I posted this in the Tascam forum but it may apply better here.

I have the above deck and it has been in storage for a long long time. I fired it up and it appears I cannot playback when I use the playback switch. I can however playback on the sync setting. I reset the four playback cards on the MB and it improved the sync playback, but not playback. Listening through the headphones while switched to playback I can hear the recording very faintly.

Any ideas?
 
Sounds like it may be time to bring it in to someone who knows what they're doing.
