p.webpHi Guys, I have a friend that is offering to sell me an old Teac 702/703 with Tascam series 70 machine cheap. I mean $80!
Do you guys know about these machines?
Its 8 tracks to tape. He said the last time he used the machine (10 years ago) it worked.
Any info on these?
Thanks.

Snap it up. We can talk about it late. That is a nice vintage piece. Ive always loved the orange on them, LOL. Seriously, 10 bucks a channel? You could part it out at a tidy profit, but that would be a shame. The heads have some wear, but at this price you dont get to fuss about that.

I say definitely pass! The Tascam 70 series was experimental. They learned to make better products the hard way through the failures of these early machines. In a word the 70 series 8-track was horrendous! I would not take one even for free. The time and money you'll put in it to get it up to spec will make you wish you hadn't, and even if you could get it up to factory spec its going to disappoint. Of course if you're more of an hobbyist and just like to tinker with old machines rather than a musician looking to use it for recording, then by all means have at it!
