Hey guys,

Im looking to to some recording in the next few weeks. I have a M-Audio Firewire 410 but I also recently came across a Teac 3 Mixer that seemes to be in good shape.

Two things, how would I go about cleaning this beast? I know this is a bit dated but it was kept in great condition.

Also are the pre's any good? I am going to be recording some vocals for a few pop songs that my friend wrote, along with some guitar tracks. This is just a step up from her mac recordings in garageband.

Hi Mike. I will probably catch a lot of flak over this but, I am currently using a Model 3 and Model 5 mixer and like them both and have no problems with them. As for cleaning, do you mean the interier or exterier ? I would start with Detoxit to clean the pots internally so there is no scatchy sounds. As far as the exterier, i would use a clean, soft cloth dampened with water ( not wet but damp ) and give it a good rub down and dry. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hey thanks for the info, yeah I should have stated im looking to clean up the pots and faders, this mixer is in nice condition but it will need some work.

Pre's could be better

Hi again. I overlooked your question about the pre's in this model. For me they are ok but they could be alot better.

The Model 3 mic pre's are typical of all the Tascam front end's of that era in that they are ok but not very swift when it comes to transient response.
