Anybody have any experience with the TC Electronics Triple C Stereo Comp? It's a 3 band stereo comp that looks pretty cool and I can get a decent deal on one. Any comments?

is it a 3-band? never used one but all the other tc stuff i have used is good. Let me know if there any good cos i've been after a multi-band comp for a while.

They retail for a grand and there wasa new one on Ebay for $300. I should have gotten it but usually when I make impulse buys like that I end up regretting it. I would trust TC Electronics but I know if I jumped at it it would end up being the worst piece of crap they ever made

they're very good. they were never $1000 though. over here in the UK, they've always been around $400 ish.
good buy though. nice to store compression settings for when you recall a project. no need to set it up again.

LW- Are you seeing the stereo's going for that cheap? I know the mono's are in that price range.

Thanks for the info, Dan. What do you think of the Triple C? Is it a better deal than the RNC right now? I was planning on picking up a couple compressors pretty soon.

get the TC Triple C over the Really Nice. there are much more functions available and the TC is a very nice sounding compressor indeed. you can really alter the way it works, and plus it's multiband. using on a group insert can be cool on a drum kit or something.
the thing that does it for me is the midi automation and the patch memory. you can return to a project later on with one less compressor to set up. id get a few of thse if you can afford it!

I remember reading reviews when they came out that mentioned the fact that you could not alter the crossover points between bands. That seemed like a real oversight and a major turn-off. Is that a fact?

I'm a little curious about the programmability also. I was under the impression you could specify the freq splits but were limited in some of the seperate settings for each.

You can change the crossover points!
The first units had a fixed threshold for all channels but from version 2.0 (downloadable from net, pc only) you can also have different thresholds in the three channels. The compression ratio cannot be different on the channels though.
I've had this box for over a year and I'm very pleased with it's sound.
If you're going to buy, buy the stereo version.
You have more use of the S/PDIF if it's a stereo version.
One bummer is that you can't have it as dual mono.

I noticed it has dithering. Anybody tried it out or used the Triple C for mastering compression and final dither?

I bought this unit about 2 weeks ago....
I have used it in my mic chain..... it basically goes between my mindprint and the sdif input of my us 428.....
Sounds pretty good. I used the Med male vocal present and it'z nice....
Also used it to track sounds from my s2000 to Nuendo...
It worked get in that application....
I have the mono unit.... I wish I had a little more doe at the time I would have got the stereo unit....
So far I am happy....
