Hey guys, I may be in the market for a new effects processor to run in the effects loop of my new Legacy head.

I've used and still use a couple of my Quadraverbs in my other rigs, and I also have a butt load of pedals (Keeley, Analog Man.....) but I was wanting to go back to my "Processor" days and keep things simple.

Is anyone here using one of these?

Thoughts - Pro's/Con's

Thanks,
Rick

I 've got 1. The sounds are good - most presets suck as with any processor. But your tone remains intact. It's fairly complicated compared to stomp boxes. You really need to take time to carve out your sound - but they're in there. Nice 'verbs, delay's, decent compression.

I still haven't taken the time to learn it properly. If you are fairly tech savvy and enjoy programming your fx - this is great. The sounds are nice and you could probably dial in anything you want. But if you like simplicity and aren't much of a techy I would go with stomp boxes.

Doesn't sound like you're using it much......you should sell it to me Cheap! :D

I'm guessing that it wouldn't be any harder than my Quadraverbs to program, although it'd take a little while to learn my way around the controls and parameter secitons (?)

With my "Quads", I only have about 5 different patches/programs set up that I use all the time.

Is this thing specifically made for guitar, or could it double for an effects processor in a PA rack as well? I'm not sure what the target market is on these things.

I just got a G-Major not too long ago and so far I really like it. As already mentioned, the presets aren't great but tweak them to taste, and I find it didn't colour my tone. It's got EQ, but I don't use it.

The tuner is very cool. For the first week I couldn't stop watching while I played because it's always on and works pretty quick.

It says it's a "guitar processor", but I don't know if you can use it on other things.

Just be careful if you buy a used one. There are a lot of documented issues the most being problems with one of the wheels on the front not working properly. I believe this has been fixed. I even contacted TC once when I was looking at a used one and they said they would fix the problem free of charge.

Thanks for the replies!!

Now I just have to come up with the cash..................but,, I don't want to sell anything (My statement to my wife :) )

The G-Major has great tones, if you can keep it running. I have had nothing but trouble with mine. It has been back to the factory three times. Many others have similar experiences and dealing with TC is anything but easy.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Is yours an older version, or I guess the better question is have they "delt" with some of these problems so that the new ones are "trouble free"?

Rick

My original one was about 2 years old. I'm not sure how much they have replaced in the various fix iterations. Today it is working fine, but who knows.

Ed

I've got one and I love it!!

Search through the forum for my posts and you'll read all about it. I use mine for gigging without any of the problems and glitches some folks seem to have had with it. I would suggest you get the G-Minor (foot controller) along with the G-Major, as they work very well together.

There is a forum on Yahoo with lots of info about the G-major and use options.

Ed

Thanks again guys for all of the replies and info.....

One thing I'm not sure of, is how many different effects you can use at the same time..........like with the Quadraverb you can do 4 (Like- Reverb, delay, chorus, flange)

Thanks again,

Rick

Noise gate, compressor, filter/mod, pitch, chorus/flanger, delay, and reverb. You can use them all at once if you want to. No distortion.

If I'm understanding the unit right, the effects are applied to the signal in that order, or you could have them in parallel, or the delay and reverb in parallel.

There are six basic effects groups, before you consider noise reduction and EQ. All can be used at the same time in whatever combination you desire.

There are also lots of MIDI control options for things like volume boost, and other parameteres.

Before you sell something to buy something that you haven't tried out yet for yourself (in person, on your own rig), I would suggest you try it out personally, if possible. Really.... I would strongly suggest you not liquidate your gear to buy something you haven't tried yourself first!! Remember, you may not like it at all....

Good advice, and would tell everyone the same thing in my position as well, BUT, having used the Quadraverb for so many years I'm sure that this will be like that only it won't color my tone/sound, and I would assume that it has much better sounding effects than my units that are over 10 years old (?)

I see it as a win / win situation--------- And who said anything about selling "gear", I'd like sell something of my wifes! :)

So far I've been striking out on finding one in stock around here.....still searching though.

Also your goal should always be to get more guitar stuff not just upgrade. It's alright to sell stuff every now and then to upgrade, but if you do that everytime you end up with less stuff and less diversity/stuff to fool around with.
