Hey everyone, it's literally been a couple years since I posted here. I'm glad to say that I've improved tremendously.

My close friend wanted to work on and record a song with me this weekend. I just finished the mix. The lyrics are very typical lovey dovey poppy. It's intentionally compressed like a radio song (Taylor Swift) so let me know how everything sounds!!

Drums are SSD Absolute Rock Kit
Bass is a Fender Thunderbird through TSEx1.5
Acoustic Guitar is an Alvarez
Piano is FL Keys
Violin is.. my sister.
Vocals belong to my friend Brenda, recorded through an SM48.

Amazing song. Love the lyrics, singing and composition.

Here are my mixing notes tho:

- Vocals are a tad, just a tad too loud. Bring the volume down just a little bit so it blends better with the instrumental.
- Bring drums up, they need to sound a little more present/powerful.
- I don't like the way FL keys sounds, you might want to try Edirol Orchestral for keys in the future.

Pretty much the same feeling here - except the keys cause I know nothing about them....
Excellent stuff overall !

Beautiful, plenty of talent here, especially the singer. The voice only sounds a bit detached or loud in the quieter parts, sounds OK in the rest. Truly great stuff, well done!

Actually, I'd say that the vocal levels are fine as they are, you just need more reversed keys in the intro so they're not quite so surprisingly loud. I think the gate on the vocals is set a bit hard, you need a lower threshold with slower attack and release, you can hear it opening and closing which is quite distracting.
On the keys sound, maybe try a very short reverb with some low-mid and bottom end EQ'ed up a bit, just might make it sound a little more resonant like an acoustic piano.
at 2mins, the instruments overwhelm the vocals a bit, so maybe drop them back a bit although I can see what you're going for here, but I think if you bring the vocals up to match the band you'll hit the compressor limit too hard.
Good job though, definitely an interesting sound there, plenty of potential so keep going.

Your friend Brenda has a beautiful voice. She's a keeper.

If you want, I have Alicia's Keys, a White Hohner Baby Grand Piano, and a Braunschweig Upright piano VST, send me the midi track and I'll send you back the audio file with the piano (Alicia's Keys sounds very polished and perfect, although still soulful. The Baby grand sounds very emotional and soft and would probably suit this song best, the upright sounds very intimate and is better for smaller scale recordings)

All in all it's still a very good mix, I'd say the same as the other guy and I've got nothing else to add :P

If you want to then just PM me, I'll PM you back my email, and just send across the midi if you still have it and I'll send back an audio file with whatever piano of your choice is.
