Tax Refund Monitors

I want to get some monitors with part of my tax refund. I'd like to stay in the sub-$500 range. What monitors are going to give me the most bang for the buck?

The E-MU PM5 is a very nice little monitor that hasn't been mentioned much around here. Our firm did a pre-release technical review of this product last fall and I got to spend a lot of time measuring and listening to them. Very flat response, wide dynamic range and decent bass extention for a 5" woofer (-3 dB @ 60 Hz). Street price is around $500/pr.

I know is your thread, but wanted to ask the people here what they think about the Wharfedale DP8.1A Diamond Pro Active Monitor (5 in.) ?

I like the Event TR8's. New $499 a pair. Great sound, big bottoms, great mids and highs.
