Hi, I'm looking to buy the tascam us1800, but I think everywhere ships from america? I live in england so obviously the plugs sockets are different, so I think I will need to buy an adaptor. The problem is that american voltage is something like 110v(?) and england is 230v(?), and there are a lot of adaptors which are cheap but non of them specify that there will be no problem with converting the voltage. Can someone explain all this to me, because I dont really know much about it and I don't want to risk breaking the us1800. I've probably said something stupid here but any help is appreciated :)

Apologies if there are various versions, but from what I can see the us1800 takes 12v DC with positive at the pin.
In the U.S. the supplied adapter will be rated for 110v input voltage, but the actual tascam unit will be the same anywhere in the world.

You can pick up a UK mains 12v DC adaptor for a few quid at a local store, or even on ebay.
You probably already have one somewhere.

The only thing you can really get wrong is buying one that has negative at the pin.
There's usually a little picture to show you, just like the one on the back of the us1800.

I saw on the user manual that it works from 100-240v, doesn't that mean I can just buy a cheap adaptor?

Hmm. It may mean that the stock adapter can operate from 110-240.

If it does, it'll say on it.
If it doesn't, buy a cheap one. :)

well looking further into the manual, it says that you should always use the adaptor that comes with it because it has all the requirements, and using another might cause malfunctioning, overheating and fire. I think I will just buy the us1800 (found a steal on ebay) and buy a plug adaptor.I can't see why it would say 100-240v when if you put 240v through it then it blows. the worst that can happen is that the tascam will break and I can send it back with the 30 day defective unit exchange policy.

Oh, sorry. I should have mentioned that you should always match or exceed the amp rating when replacing a PSU.

So if the one that comes with it is 12v DC 500mA, then your replacement should be at least that.

Other than that, it's completely safe to buy a replacement.

The only reason I prefer buying a local replacement than buying an adapter is that I don't really understand the whole power frequency thing.
If the original adapter states 50hz mains and UK native is 60 (or vice versa?), I don't know the implications of that.

At least with a UK 12v DC adapter, I know what I've got is mean to be plugged in here.

the worst that can happen is that the tascam will break and I can send it back with the 30 day defective unit exchange policy.

Really, you'd probably just burn out the power supply transformer, which is even better. :D
