Hey I am looking at getting one of these and running it through my laptop to do recording of like guitar and singing (i.e. never too many tracks at once). Are these decent options and which one is better?

Also I was wondering if either is 2496 capable.

Thanks for your help

Neither. The Us-122 does 24/48 and the mobilepre 16/48. Read all about it on their manufacturers' websites.

I've got the Mobilepre that I use with my Dell laptop and I'm not too crazy about it. I mean, the preamps are ok for low-end equipment, but I think USB itself is not a very good medium for recording unless you are just goofing around and getting some ideas down.

Everyone warned me about USB before I got it, but I thought I would give it a try and I think they were right.

So I would go for PCI or Firewire if you can do it.

I'm currently looking to get a separate digital multitracker device like a Fostex MR-8 to record away from my computer, then transfer the files to the laptop to add effects and mix.

i have the tascam us122 and i don't mind it at all. Then again that's compared to a shitty shitty sound card i was using before. I use a condensor mic wich cool edit pro and it sound pretty good. USB is kindof bS, i wan't to get a pci card i think. I would say that the us122 does the job though
