I just got the US-1800 I was waiting for, but it won't install. Anyone ever encounter this?

I tried a different USB port, cable, and cable and port.

It goes halfway through the installation up to the point where it tells me to plug in the USB cable. At that point, I get the error message "TASCAM US-1800 installer has stopped working".

I've shut down, re-started, removed everything TASCAM from my computer and started over, etc.....The drivers are from TASCAM's site. I had no problem with the US-800, but for some reason, I can't install the 1800.

Frustration.

Do you think the 800 drivers are the issue? Try removing those and then trying to install again. Could very well be a conflict there.

Thanx man, but.....

removed everything TASCAM from my computer and started over,

Having said that, I still see the US-800 control panel. I have no idea how to get rid of it. I've gone into program files and totally deleted the TASCAM folder. I've gone into my Control Panel and un-installed anything TASCAM. So, my computer shows no TASCAM product or file of any kind, but the US-800 Control Panel is still there. There's got to be a way to get rid of it, but I don't know what else I can do.

Windows 8. It's got to work with W8, considering the 800 worked with it.

Make sure you reboot after removing the 800 to make sure locked files can be removed. So, remove 800 as you have done, reboot, then install the 1800.

Si. Some files don't go away until after reboot (and little registry hooks need to come out).

Also, run system information and be sure you are running the right system req. Look at the line that says "System Type" and make sure you have that version of the driver (32 or 64).

Thanx guys. This is really frustrating.

I've re-booted. I've un-installed the US-800, even though the computer still sees it's control panel. Every tiem I try to install the 1800, I get that stupid error message. There's nothing in my program files or list of programs that says "TASCAM". I don't know enough about computers to know how to get into the registry and delete stuff.

I might just refresh the computer to how it was when I bought it. There's a "refresh" option where I don't lose any folders or files, but will have to re-install almost every program I have, and there's still no guarantee it will work.

FUCK!

Yes, I know I have 64. I even tried installing the 32 and it told me a need the 64 driver version.

RAMI.... can you look in the Windows 8 Control Panel to Remove Programs and see if the program still shows up there. It will be listed with other programs sort of like below. Just removing the folder in programs may not have removed the driver which you are seeing.

I did that too. There's nothing in program list that says TASCAM. I did remove the TASCAM US-800 file from the exact list you're showing me.

No problem, man. I appreciate it.

OK, even weirder. I just plugged in the US-800 and it worked right away. I had un-installed it and removed the TASCAM folder...Yes, I un-installed it from the "Uninstall Programs" in the Control panel. It's like the computer doesn't want to get rid of the 800. I don't know what else to do to get rid of the 800. It should be gone.

Assume 64bit drivers are being installed.

Did some poking around on Google..... are you plugging the Tascam into a USB 3.0 port by any chance? If so try a USB2.0.

Yes, 64 bit....Like I said, I even tried 32 bit and it told me I need 64 bit. It's the USB 2.0 port. Same one my 800 was plugged into. I'm pretty sure my problem is getting rid of the 800 first.

Fuck me. Really sorry Rami. I'm not sure what is going on. Removing the US-800 driver seems like an obvious cause. Maybe the registry didn't clean up after the uninstall. You can download CCleaner, a free registry utility.

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

We use this utility at work to fix similar problems. Install it, then run it.

Click on Cleaner and then Analyze. Let it do its thing, then Click on Run Cleaner.
run the Registry next and Scan For Issues. let it do its thing. Click on Fix Selected Issues to allow to fix the registry issues it finds.

Doing this helps solve a lot of little stupid problems, so it might catch whatever is holding up the install.

Let me know how you make out.

Hmm, if you removed the program files before uninstalling from the control panel, it might not have unistalled properly. Maybe reload the US-800 drivers again and try to uninstall again.

I do not know W8 at all, but can you find a way to get into 'Device Manager' like W7? From there under Sound, video and game controllers, you would select the US800>right click it>Properties>Driver>Uninstall.

See if you can get there. Is there a 'Start' button in Windows 8? In search window 'Search programs and files' type in 'Device Manager'.

Also the 1800 works fine on USB3 port. That is how I ran it, though on Windows 7.

How you get there might be different for 8, but once you get there, should be like Jimmy stated. I don't have an 8 system to walk through it.

If that fails, you could, get 800 installed, then reboot, uninstall the 800 (to make sure it is a clean uninstall), reboot, then install the 1800.

If that doesn't work, let us know and we will work through purging the damn thing the hard way!

Hey man, you've got nothing to be sorry about. There's something weird going on with my computer.

I did the CC Cleaner thing by the way. Unfortunately, it didn't do anything for my problem.

There's something weird going on. I re-installed the 800 drivers, and then when I tried to un-install them, I got the message "There was an error un-installing.....this program may have already been removed. Would you like to remove this item from the list". So, the control panel thinks it's gone, but it's not. I'm plugged into my 800 and it's working fine. My computer doesn't want to get rid of it for some stupid reason.

You might be able to try a System Restore. Go back a week or so....
We'll keep hacking at this until we get it working right. :)

I don't know how similar Windows 8 is to 7, but this worked for me when I had a problem removing some programs when I got the same message you did when trying to remove something. Try starting your computer in safe mode, the open control panel>add, remove programs and see if the offender is listed there. then do the remove thing.
