Hi All,
I just set up a US-1641 with Cubase LE 5. I have a fast quad core computer with 2Gb RAM running Windows 7 64-bitdedicated to my studio. I have managed to record and playback both MIDI and audio files. I have noticed something I can't figure out.

When trying to overdub I can only hear the previous MIDI track (playing a soft synth) by using the line outputs from the US-1641 to my powered monitors. But that means that there is too much delay on hearing the new midi track I am trying to add (i.e. sound has to go from midi controller via US-1641 to DAW and back out US-1641) so playing along with previous track is impossible. The other option is to use the US-1641 monitor out jacks for my monitors. I read that the monitor outs are exactly designed for overdubbing so latency doesn't come into play. So then I hear my new track from my MIDI keyboard speakers as I play it since signal goes into US-1641 and back out to keyboard without going through Cubase to hear. However, in that case, I can't hear the previous MIDI track. Of note, under "Sounds" in the control panel of Win 7, I selected the output to go to the "US-1641 Speakers" ...evidently that means to the line outs, not the monitor outs. And what if my MIDI keyboard didn't have it's own speakers? I supppose then I would need to use audio outs and run into US-1641 inputs?

Anyway I'm sure I'm missing some basic thing here but I am new to the whole home DAW studio thing.

Thanks, Mark

PS I have US-1641 set to lowest latency...there appear to be three choices in the menu.
