Tascam US-122 noise problem

Has anyone encountered this? I own a us-122 (which works beautifully), but I work in a music store and I ave a customer with a problem. He has installed his us-122 on three different computers and even with the inputs etc. all the way down there is a constant static type noise at about -46 dB. I swapped it with mine at home, and swapped cables and it works fine, but this guy has demonstrated the problem to me on his laptop and it's clearly there. plus he claims it does the same thing on two other computers (one running xp, two with 2000). Help! I can't seem to get in touch with Tascam tech support although the customer says he got them and they had no explanation.

Disable the network and firewire adapters in Device Manager and check all your input cables for shorts, perhaps a faulty filter capacitor in the power supply of the laptop. A few more details of the conditions under which it occurs would be helpful also, like does he have any other device plugged in at the time and if so what input levels and which device.
