I've got a tsr8 and when I engage play everything seems fine but the tape slides a little further up on the tape guide post than it should. This is the one on the right as the tape is leaving the heads and before it touches the capstan. What is causing this and how can it be adjusted. It doesn't seem to effect it any but I don't know.It flanges a little up past the indentation in the middle of the post but is still being guided by the post.Hope this is making sense. Is there some way to raise the post or is there something else going on?

It could be the capstan is out of alignment. I had a similiar situation on my MS-16. The tape was riding off of a guide. There are 3 screws holding the capstan motor in place. there should be little holes near each screw. The trick is to determine witch way it has to go and insert shims through the appropriate hole. I did it by trial and error. The manual should help in determining which hole needs to be shimmed. I used an Aluminum roofing nail for my shim. I cut some of the shaft off but left enough so I could use it as a handle. I then filed it down in stages until it was the right thickness. It was tedious but it fixed the problem.

Could it also be the rubber on the capstan roller is not "true" or uneven, like wider on one end or sort of conical shaped. It looks ever so slightly uneven.

Yes, You could try a new one, Teac still has them. Maybe a crooked capstan caused that.
